The year ahead
It’s been a busy January here at Keytime Towers, with 1000 tax queries resolved, and 57 000 tax returns successfully filed during the month. I thought I’d give you a brief update on what we’ll be up to for the rest of the year.
Development
For the rest of the tax year, the development team will be beavering away at testing and polishing the 2010 release of the Accountants Suite. The biggest change you’ll see is the introduction of Client Manager Plus, which replaces Client Manager, and has been written from the ground up, adding CRM, Time & Fees and Job Tracking functions.

The new millennium bug – really?!?!
Just been reading this article on AccountancyAge and was pretty amazed that such guffery (in effect, iXBRL will have as big an impact as Y2K) is still tolerated these days – take a look here
Whilst the change to iXBRL is a big one and will involve software house working like crazy to deliver it, consider this – any software house that does not deliver by April 2011 will be out of business.

Launch of New On-Line Corporation Tax Filing Service
23 November 2009: HMRC launch new CT Online service
This weekend, HMRC will be taking down the current CT online filing platform, and moving to the new service, ChRIS. To make sure that you can file your CT returns to ChRIS, we have produced an update to the Corporation Tax module and this will be released shortly.
You will need to install this update from 9am on Monday 23rd November
Updating is a doddle, as you can update from within Client Manager. Simply open Client Manager (Start // All Programs // Keytime // Client Manager), then select Update Accountants Suite from the Help // About menu.

HMRC need software houses to release XBRL enabled software quickly
Following a recent meeting with someone from HMRC who has quite a lot to do with the drive to web enable HMRC processes, a number of points became clearer in our understanding of the drive to move the efiling of corporation tax returns and statutory accounts from their current platform to i-XBRL.

Test Drive working well…
About a month ago, we launched our new Test Drive facility. This allows you to try out any of the Keytime practice software in a browser – no need to install software, register it etc.
You are up and running in minutes and it runs as though installed on your PC.
So far, we have had over 75 firms/individuals try it out and 50% turn out to be genuinely interested. We have so far managed to convert 6 of them into proper sales, with several more in the pipeline.
We view this as a good result as the time frame was much shorter than when we used to send evaluation discs out or point interested parties at the download fro the website.
Interestingly, everyone we have spoken to says they like this new way of evaluating Keytime software and they intend to recommend that their colleagues and friends in similar businesses try it out.
If you have a few minutes yourself and want to try it out, click this link
